This morning I went outside and realized it's perfect rainforest weather. Then I find your painting and you've painted it. I love this stuff, nice work!

I had a trip to the Olympic Peninsula planned during spring break, but of course we got rained out. So you're right, I used photos as one of my references. But I also think that when it's not practical to paint plein air, it's as important to draw on the memory of a place as to look at pictures. The light, the way shadows flicker, the breezes or stillness, the sounds and smells of a place, all help when trying to capture its essence in paint. The painting is very different from the reference photos.

Shouldn't the "Never say quit" be on your tail so the guy behind you can read it easily? :)
(If it's on your back then the hydration pack might hide it.)

Margaret - I may not have found all the art yet, but I've gotten pretty good at locating restrooms and drinking fountains at the Met. The trick is to hunt down the ones that are not near (a) the cafeteria, (b) a popular special exhibition. And of course not to get lost or distracted on the way there or back...

Street food is the best part of NY! That and sitting in Times Square now that it is partly closed to traffic. The Event Horizon scultpures look awesome - and let me know when you find the restroom wing in the Met ;-) (how many millions of people visit there, and there's like 4 stalls???)
